I Learned - I {Heart} my Telephoto Zoom Lens

There was a time not too long ago that I didn't like my 55-250mm lens. I wouldn't even take it with us if we were going on a two week holiday.
Lately I've found a new affection for it. You never know when you'll see a bird or animal you can't get really close to. Also I love using it to zoom in on a single flower in a tree.
Now I take my Telephoto lens with me whenever I go on a day trip with my camera. Actually I need to buy a new camera bag to be able to fit all my essential lenses in.
So I learned not to get too comfortable using just one lens, sometimes it's fun to mix it up a bit. I also found that I enjoy capturing photos of wildlife.
This is a Kookaburra an Australian Giant Kingfisher.

Focal length 250mm, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/40

Couldn't resist putting up an other Australian native, a Koala, that I spotted along a walking track not far from our house last week.

Focal length 250mm, ISO 400, f/7.1, 1/400

Beautiful photos! I am totally in love with my prime lens but when I see photographs like me I know I need to find myself a good zoom lens.

Visiting from "Click it up a Notch". Gorgeous photos. What "I" learned is that I really need to get out of my comfort zone and get a lens like YOU have! :)

I couldn't get by without my zoom, in fact I'm currently looking into a 500mm.

How cool to see a koala while out for a walk.

You have some fantastic photos. I have been here three days in a row and loved it each time!!

I would love a telephoto lens. Here is Florida there is so much wildlife that I could capture if I had better zoom. Unfortunately, I don't so I miss out on some cool shots.

BTW, check out porteen gear for a camera bag (on Etsy). My husband got me one for my birthday. AWESOME!!!!!

I am going to feature her product on my blog soon, because it is more my style than JoTotes or Kelly bags.

Great pictures. Something else for you to become expert in. Lol. I have got a set of bellows for my camera so I can do close up shots. Macro lenses are just so expensive. So I'm going practice with that. Wish me luck. LOL

I didn't know a kookaburra was a kingfisher. It's an awesome bird.

I'm the same way with my lenses, only in reverse. I always seem to use my zoom and don't carry along my short lens ;)

Amazing photographs! I love the lines and framing of the Kookaburra and the colors and lighting of the sleeping Koala. I take both of my lens - main and zoom - with me everywhere I go as I never know what I may be in the mood for or what the moment may call for. I like to be prepared :o). Thank you for sharing all of your beautiful photos, I am following along and know I can learn a lot from you. Also thank you for the helpful comment on my blog, it allowed me to see something I had not seen in the photo. Feel free to comment and critique my photos any time :o). Thanks again!

Beautiful photos! How cool to see a koala! I love my 55-200mm lens. In fact, I'd love to have a stronger zoom ... someday. :) I typically keep my 18-105 lens on my camera for its versatility, but I switch to the 200 often.

I love my 55-200mm; when I first got my camera it was the only lens I used. Now I switch more often~too many scenes I need a wider angle for.

However, while capturing animals (or close-up flowers) with my zoom is a favorite past time~I have to go to the zoo to find them! What a beautiful bird, and a koala on your walk~awesome!

First off, I love that you live in Australia and get to see cool things like Koala bears on an evening walk! How cool!!! I am DYING to visit Australia :O) I love that you decided to play with your lenses and feel back in love with your zoom!! That bird photo is very cool! Love the white against the natural background :O) P.S. If your looking for a fabulous camera bag you should check out the Kelly Moore Bags. I have 2 and am about to buy a 3rd :O) he he

Until I got my 100-400mm lens I had the 55-250 on my camera 90% of the time. I love that lens! It does a great job capturing wildlife. You did great!!
