Scavenger Hunt - Stairs, Macro, Clouds, Abstract & Smile

It's Sunday again, so time for another of Ashley Sisk's Scavenger Hunts.
Yesterday I got picked for the Top 10 in Click it up a Notch August Competition, if you have time pop over and check out the entries and vote for your favourite, here.

1. Stairs
I've used these stairs before for Repeating Patterns, but I took some new photos yesterday. I love the colour and texture of them. They are from the car park at the State Library in town.

2. Macro
I don't normally take photos of flies, I think there's a bit of a yucky association there, but I couldn't pass up this one, he was basically posing and I loved his colours. Taken with my 50mm 1.8 together with an extension tube 25.

3. Clouds

4. Abstract
My son loves to collect feathers, and on Thursday he was home sick from school so we took out a selection from his school bag and had fun dropping water onto them and seeing how water repellent they are. He had so much fun and I tried to get some photos. It was hard because any movement shook the drops. I love the reflection of the feather in the drops, I think it makes these drops look like Cowrie shells. Taken with my 50mm 1.8 and extension tube too.

5. Smile
An M&M cookie should make him smile!

Edit: I have a post about my extension tube here if anyone is interested in this macro option.

Can't wait to see everyone's interpretations

Wow, I just spent over five minutes studying these photos. The fly is by far the most beautiful fly I've ever seen, actually it's the only beautiful fly I've ever seen :) If this photo were to spread around the world, I think people would think twice about swatting a fly!

The abstract of water on feather is very intriguing: the parts that are in focus, the parts that are lit, the upper half's texture compared to the water bubbles that appear as glass... I love all of it, so much in one image.

And I really liked clouds for the bird taking flight!

Thank you for sharing such powerful photos with us!

Really beautiful photos! The feather/water drops and the macro and...all gorgeous!

What kind of extension tubes do you have? Do you like how they work? Certainly that fly is magnificent!

Another fantastic collection! I agree, the color on the stair photo is lovely. I never thought I would say this, but that fly is stunning. The silhouette of the bird with the clouds is beautiful. I love the feather with the water droplets! So interesting and the depth of field is perfect! Finally, what a great moment captured and what a beautiful smile. Thank you for sharing your inspiring photos!

Hi Sarah,
I am new to blogging and saw my friend Leanne follows you, I liked the name of your blog and am not disappointed with your pics. Love them. I have finished a 365 day project but did not blog it. I am now blogging a project inspired by Louise's '52 suburbs'. Mine is called 'My Sydney'. My goal being to capture the suburbs of Sydney through my eyes. I am also very new to editing.... in fact have not ever tried. I loved some of the effects you have achieved in your pics by editing.

Such a great collection Sara. I agree with you flies...but the macro world is amazing...even if you are looking at bugs and flies and such! You have a great eye for the ordinary and make them extraordinary.
Congrats on being chosen for the top 10. Good luck.

Love, LOVE your macro and abstract shots!

I don't have a macro lens, but I do have a 50 mm lens. Now I am intrigued as to what an extension tube is! I am going to have to see about getting one if I can take shots like these with a lens I already have!

Sarah, these are all so wonderful, I'm not going to try to choose a favorite. I love the composition of your stairs and macro. They are soft subtle and easy on the eye. And, who can resist that smile :)

You actually made a fly look beautiful! Those water drops are stunning and what a cute smile!

You always have such lovely inspiring work Sara and I love how you've been able to capture the texture of the feathers in those refractions.

I've never even considered extension tubes as I'm saving for a macro lens but I must go and price them as it will be Christmas time before I get a macro. The purple hues in the body and wings of that little fly are so pretty.

I'm back! So after seeing the beautiful pictures on your post I have been looking into extension tubes and I was wondering if you could tell me what kind you have. I really think I want to get one for my birthday at the end of the month!
